Summary
Carex squarrosa is an attractive large sedge that is found along streams and in wet meadows and swamps in eastern North America. It has interesting bristly thimble-shaped seed heads that resemble those of Carex typhina. Squarrose sedge performed well the first two years of the trial, then ratings fell, possibly due to winter rodent damage, disease, or inadequate moisture compared to natural preference. This species could be used in rain gardens or wetland plantings.
