Summary

Solidago caesia is a common species found in woodlands and shady roadsides throughout the eastern United States. Clumps of wiry purple stems followed by leafy inflorescences from late September into October give blue-stemmed goldenrod plenty of ornamental value and amplify the pollinator value of woodland gardens. This species is a tried-and-true performer in the shady naturalistic gardens at Mt. Cuba where it is adaptable to a variety of soils as long as they are not too wet.
