Summary
This cultivar is thought to be a hybrid between Phlox paniculata and Phlox divaricata. However much like Phlox × arendsii ‘Babyface’, it is nearly identical to other compact selections of Phlox paniculata and shares no resemblance to the shade-loving woodland phlox. However, unlike ‘Babyface’, ‘Susanne’ performed very poorly in our trial. It was plagued by powdery mildew and four out of five plants completely failed to bloom. We only assign floral ratings when at least two plants start blooming in order to avoid outliers in performance. Because of this, ‘Susanne’ did not receive a floral rating and thus its total average score is significantly reduced.
