Summary
Monarda didyma was the worst performing bee balm in the trial. Its overall lack of vigor, poor habit, disease pressure, and nearly non-existent floral display all weighed heavily on its rating. Even when grown in a shaded environment, the plants continued to struggle. The performance of the straight species was a stark comparison to a selection of Monarda didyma called ‘Jacob Cline’. It was growing right next to M. didyma and yet was infinitely more vigorous, lush, sturdy and floriferous.
