Trial Garden

Monarda ‘Fireball’

6 Photos

Summary

Monarda ‘Fireball’ performed neither well nor poorly throughout the trial. It has flowers similar in color to ‘Colrain Red’, ‘Judith’s Fancy Fuchsia’ and ‘Raspberry Wine’; however, ‘Fireball’ is about one foot shorter and doesn’t seem to spread as quickly as the taller cultivars. Powdery mildew is a concern, with significant disease coverage throughout the summer, though it surprisingly only causes moderate levels of defoliation. One thing that sets ‘Fireball’ apart from other cultivars of bee balm is its wide, heavily textured leaves.
