Summary
Heuchera americana ‘Malachite’ is a medium-sized cultivar with extremely ruffled green leaves. Large red discolorations were observed each year but a pathogen was not able to be identified. It is possible the spotting was caused by environmental stress. ‘Malachite’ flowered for the first time in 2013 with only a couple of white flowers per plant. This disappointing display was repeated again in 2014. Root/stem rot also occurred during the summer of 2014, and eventually led to the death of three plants. When grown in full sun, ‘Malachite’ experienced significant burning, and is thus only recommended for part shade – full shade conditions.
