Coreopsis tripteris

5 Photos

Coreopsis tripteris is a tall species, reaching approximately 7’ tall, with large yellow flowers with dark cones. Unfortunately the plants were unable to support themselves and began flopping in mid-June, about the time they reached 5’ tall. While the plants did prove hardy and disease free, the floppiness was too severe to overlook, especially compared to superior cultivars like C. tripteris ‘Gold Standard’ and C. tripteris ‘Flower Tower’. It was noted that seeds of C. tripteris and its cultivars were a favorite of the goldfinches that visited our garden. This is a rhizomatous species that spreads approximately 2 ½’ over three years.
