Coreopsis falcata

3 Photos

Summary

Coreopsis falcata forms a sparsely foliated basal clump that sends up 3’ tall flowering stems in mid-June. The flowers bloom for about four weeks, and because the stems are leafless, the flowers appear as if they are floating in mid-air. This may be a useful effect in certain situations but would probably disappoint the average gardener. Coreopsis falcata overwintered well the first year. However, the plants struggled to return after the second winter, and were so weak that only one plant survived the entire trial. Powdery mildew was also a problem.
