Baptisia ‘Midnight’

5 Photos

Summary

Baptisia ‘Midnight’ is a large cultivar with the tallest inflorescences in the entire trial. The extreme height of the inflorescence contributes to its long, three week bloom, since it takes a longer time for the opening flowers to progress up such a tall stem. Unfortunately, ‘Midnight’ has a fairly open habit and is unable to support both its foliage flowers. The result is a very rangy looking plant, with arm-like inflorescences pointing in every direction. This cultivar was the darkest colored Baptisia when it first came on the market, but that title now belongs to ‘Royal Velvet’.
