Summary
During the first few years of the trial, Baptisia alba was noted for lacking vigor and having too few inflorescences. However, by the last year there was a great improvement in the number of stems and inflorescences, from 24 in 2014 to 80 in 2015. Even with such a vast improvement, Baptisia alba only rated a 3.7 because the floral display was not as prolific as many other selections. It may be that this species takes longer to mature and has been behind the curve throughout the entire trial. Baptisia alba has gray stems from the time they emerge through flowering, complementing the white blooms. As the flowers fade, the stems change to green.
