Summary
Sessile trillium is an attractive, herbaceous perennial with dark red to greenish-yellow flowers and green or mottled foliage, typically reaching 6-12” tall. While similar to several other trilliums in general appearance, it is adapted to heavier alkaline soils that are periodically quite moist. At the same time, it can tolerate extended dry periods. Sessile trillium performs well in partial shade; however, it will tolerate more sun as long as the soil remains moist. In the garden, Trillium sessile makes an attractive companion for Phlox divaricata, Carex plantaginea, Enemion biternatum, Thalictrum thalictroides, Asarum canadense, Erythronium americanum, Dicentra cucullaria, and Uvularia sessilifolia.
