Summary
Small rose tickseed (Coreopsis rosea) is one of only two pink flowered native species, and it will charm you with its petite, daisy-like blossoms. Lavender pink flowers with sunny yellow centers nestle on top of finely divided foliage. Not only are they attractive to bees and butterflies but the blooms also make good cut flowers. They prefer full sun and consistently moist, yet well-drained garden soil. Plants benefit greatly from a good trimming in late summer which will tidy the appearance and encourage the plants to rebloom. Generally short-lived perennials, these plants may spread and naturalize an area by rhizomes and self-seeding. Contrasting vertical plants such as spike gayfeather (Liatris spicata), tall larkspur (Delphinium exaltatum), and purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) make superb companions. Zones 3-8.
