Summary
Slender goldentop (Euthamia caroliniana) is an attractive, underused deciduous perennial worthy of wider garden use. Its extremely fine texture and soft yellow flowers make this plant a very special element in the garden. Slender goldentop is one of the last plants to bloom in late autumn. It spreads by underground roots at a rate closely related to the looseness of the soil, and makes beautiful masses. Slender goldentop makes a striking clump in a perennial garden or a meadow planting with little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium), broomsedge bluestem (Andropogon virginicus), hair-awn muhly (Muhlenbergia capillaris), Georgia aster (Symphyotrichum georgianum), Stokes’ aster (Stokesia laevis), black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia fulgida), spike gayfeather (Liatris spicata), and eastern silvery aster (Symphyotrichum concolor). Zones 5-10.
