Chrysogonum virginianum

Native Plants

Green-and-Gold

4 Photos

Summary

Green-and-gold (Chrysogonum virginianum) is a marvelous semi-evergreen perennial groundcover that enlivens the garden with delightful masses of small, daisy-like yellow flowers during spring and sporadically throughout the summer. Green-and-gold also serves as a foundation for other plants ranging from woodland settings to pond edges or rock gardens. It performs well in shade to part sun and well-drained soils that are acidic to neutral. As a companion, green-and-gold is quite versatile and works well with a wide array of plants including Indian pink (Spigelia marilandica), wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis), lesser yellow lady’s slipper (Cypripedium parviflorum), foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia), closed bottle gentian (Gentiana clausa) and shooting-star (Dodecatheon Primula meadia). Zones 5-9.
