For the third consecutive year in a row, The News Journal awarded Mt. Cuba Center a Top Workplaces 2021 honor. This recognition credits 55 companies and organizations in Delaware as a Top Workplace and celebrates companies that make the world a better place by prioritizing a people-centered culture and giving employees a voice.
The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization including alignment, execution, and connection, just to name a few.
“Fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture is very important to us. We want to be an employer of choice.” said Jeff Downing, Mt. Cuba’s executive director. “As a research-based institution, we use evaluation tools like this to help us measure our progress and ensure Mt. Cuba is a place where we all want to work.”
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic when part of the staff was working remotely, the Mt. Cuba team placed great emphasis on maintaining a friendly, collaborative work environment, whether it was on-site or virtual.
“During this very challenging time, Top Workplaces has proven to be a beacon of light for organizations, as well as a sign of resiliency and strong business performance,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “When you give your employees a voice, you come together to navigate challenges and shape your path forward. Top Workplaces draw on real-time insights into what works best for their organization, so they can make informed decisions that have a positive impact on their people and their business.”

About Mt. Cuba Center
Mt. Cuba Center is a botanic garden that highlights the beauty and value of native plants to inspire conservation. Once the private estate of Pamela and Lammot du Pont Copeland, the public garden opened for general admission in 2013 and now spans more than 1,000 acres. It features captivating blooms along garden pathways in formal and woodland settings, picturesque meadows and ponds with stunning vistas, and more than two miles of scenic trails throughout its natural lands. Mt. Cuba is recognized as a leader in native plant research and open space preservation, having protected more than 13,000 acres in the mid-Atlantic region. In 2021, it was voted one of the top five best botanical gardens in North America by USA Today readers. Additionally, it was awarded The News Journal’s Top Workplaces 2021 and Delaware Today’s Best of Delaware for “Best Place to Experience Nature” and “Best Workshops” for its gardening, conservation, art, and wellness classes.
