Take an in-depth tour of our current plant trials, including the newly installed fern, Pycnanthemum, and Asclepias plantings with Sam Hoadley, horticultural research manager. Learn how trials are selected, scheduled, and conducted. Get a chance to ask your questions about the recently published Amsonia trial and learn even more about these fantastic native plants.

With a signature cocktail in hand, join director of horticulture George Coombs for an after-hours garden tour of our formal and naturalistic gardens. Hear stories about how our gardens evolved during his 13+ years at Mt. Cuba Center, learn about the talented horticulturists and stewards who care for our gardens and grounds, and get a glimpse into the future as we strategize how to make our woodland gardens accessible to all. Signature cocktails will be prepared by mixologist Diane Keesee, using ingredients foraged from common local plants for a new twist in mixology. (Ages 21 and over).

Take a unique and insightful tour of Mt. Cuba Center’s new greenhouse production facility with James Rockwell, greenhouse and nursery manager. One of the first of its kind, the greenhouse is designed to be net zero energy use, utilizing solar and geothermal technologies. This tour will showcase design features throughout the greenhouse production facilities and highlight current conservation propagation projects. Learn more about how this project unfolded and the conservation work that we facilitate in this one-of-a-kind space.

Join Mt. Cuba’s executive director, Jeff Downing, for an intimate lunch in the historic Copeland House. As Executive Director for over 10 years, Jeff has spearheaded Mt. Cuba’s most significant initiatives and guided us through our greatest challenges since transitioning from a private estate to a public garden. Enjoy an informal and informative lunch where Jeff will discuss his time at Mt. Cuba, projects he’s most proud of, and what to expect over the coming years.
