Fungal Foray

A wild mushroom at Mt. Cuba Center.

Note: This class has been postponed to the rain date of October 17 from the original October 4 date, due to the forecast.

Enjoy a rare opportunity to explore Mt. Cuba’s stunning landscapes under the cover of the forest canopy to uncover the hidden world of mushrooms.

Equipped with expert guidance, you will venture into the field to:

  • Learn the crucial identifying features of our local fungi and discover the essential roles they play in our ecosystems.
  • Hike through Mt. Cuba’s natural areas to scout and spot the incredible fungal diversity hidden along the trails.
  • Discuss immediate, actionable steps you can take to preserve fungal diversity through community science and local land stewardship.

Be prepared for a lengthy hike through hilly (sometimes steep) and uneven terrain. Please dress for the weather.

This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center on Saturday, October 17.
