Seasonal Guest Experience Assistant

The Seasonal Guest Experience Assistant greets and assists visitors, while providing clerical support to the Guest Experience Department. Please note this is a seasonal, part time/non-exempt position.

Essential Functions: 

Ticketing & Cash Handling 
Sell tickets, memberships, public programs, and Mt. Cuba Center merchandise and ensures accurate cash handling procedures with great attention to detail

Guest Services 
Greet guests in a friendly and enthusiastic way, answer questions, and attend to guest needs to ensure a positive experience while visiting Mt. Cuba Center

Clerical & Support 
Support the clerical needs of the Guest Experience Department and provides support for guest events as needed

Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested. Contribute to MCC activities as required. Actively participate as a member of Mt. Cuba Center’s community

Qualifications:

– A high school diploma or GED
– An active certification in a State of Delaware approved Alcoholic Beverage Servers Program or a willingness to complete the certification within 30 days of hire

Position Summary

Lead Mt. Cuba’s Conservation and Research Programs: Provide strategic direction and leadership to ongoing research programs including: documenting the ecological benefits and horticultural performance of native species, studying the impact of ongoing adaptive natural lands management and innovative reforestation strategies, inventorying and monitoring flora and fauna on MCC’s campus and regionally, identifying propagation protocols for native plant species, further developing MCC’s living collections, and monitoring local water quality. Collaborate with staff, universities, organizations, community, and others to advance Mt. Cuba’s research objectives; oversee contracts, budgets, and project management of fellowships and university collaborations; oversee research publications.

Provide Oversight to Trial Garden, Collections, Greenhouse & Natural Lands: Oversee the operation of our renowned trial garden, over 1,000 acres of natural lands, horticultural collections, and soon to be built, state of the art, net-zero energy, production greenhouse and propagation lab.

Staff Leadership: Recruit, lead, train, and inspire staff to realize the core objectives of our organization’s ambitions, collaborating with internal teams and external constituencies; ensure clear communication and accountability across the team.

Responsibilities

Timesheet Processing

Process payroll for all employees; audit timekeeping records for compliance maintain time and attendance records and oversee electronic payments and distribution of payroll checks. Ensure payroll information is accurate and confirm all relevant documentation is in order, coordinating with the  Human Resources team about employee changes in payroll (e.g. terminations, new hires) and validating staff changes including pay increases, department transfers, position changes, etc. Input changes in employee tax status and process other financial compensations or deductions (e.g. annual bonuses, severance pay), process involuntary deductions, such as garnishments and wage levies, calculate final pays and process quick calculations and manual checks as needed.  Respond to employee questions or requests about pay and pay statements.

 

Payroll Recording

Prepare payroll records for external reporting, create, and run reports in payroll system, track and record data for annual employee compensation and benefit summaries. Keep abreast of multi-state payroll laws.

 

Administrative & Department Support

Assist with responsibilities related to benefit and 401k programs including tracking and monitoring deductions and deposits, preparing year-end reports for our third-party administrator and outside accountants as needed.
