Director of Human Resources

We seek an experienced and passionate Director of Human Resources that can participate and work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to lead the organization in carrying out the strategic goals and founding intention of Mt. Cuba Center.
Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading the organization’s personnel programs including, but not limited to employee relations, benefits administration, workforce training and development, human resources policy and procedure development, and talent acquisition. They develop and implement strategic human resource plans designed to provide the organization with the best talent available and to position the organization as an employer of choice. This position supervises staff of the Human Resource (HR) department and liaises with staff at all levels to ensure legal compliance and implementation of the organizations mission and talent strategy.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance to select, purchase, and administer employee compensation and benefit programs, inclusive of worker’s compensation, health insurance, leaves of absence, disability, and payroll processing; Monitors compensation trends to ensure that Mt. Cuba Center remains a competitive employer; Evaluates new and existing positions as needed to ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices; Implements and maintains the organization’s Performance Management and Reward & Recognition systems
- Maintain responsibility for organizational compliance with federal, state and local laws pertaining to all employment matters and develop policies and procedures to support compliance and development efforts; Communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to management. Serve as the organization’s EEO Officer and perform preventive labor relations work.
- Collaborates with safety to develop and implement safety programs for regulatory compliance and to foster the health and well-being of employees
- Consult with legal counsel as appropriate on personnel matters and represent the organization on legal issues pertaining to employment
- Direct and oversee talent acquisition and development programs to support candidate sourcing, recruiting, and workforce retention activities; Supervise the onboarding process, fostering clarity and connection for all employees and their role in relation to the overall vision of the organization
- Lead Mt. Cuba’s DEIA initiatives and training to foster and support a diverse, inclusive workplace that is welcoming to all
- Provide skills training, help management identify employees’ competencies, knowledge and skills gaps, and develop and continually monitor programs to address identified gaps; provide management development and change management interventions upon request and as needed; Serve as a resource and sounding board for restructuring efforts
- Develop and support a highly motivated and engaged workplace culture; lead cultural initiatives that reinforce Mt. Cuba’s core values and foster a sense of inclusion and belonging among all staff; Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and employees through effective listening and problem solving of people issues; work with managers and supervisors to ensure team members understand and are held accountable for performance expectations
- Recruit, lead, motivate and develop employees who can successfully collaborate with all internal and external constituencies to help achieve the core objectives, inclusive of making all personnel action decisions
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies for advancing MCC’s overall vision, mission, and program goals, and direct all aspects of the execution of those strategies
- Work cooperatively with the management team on adopting and implementing organization-wide systems, and help guide and execute the strategic goals of the institution to support Mt. Cuba Center’s mission
- Assist the Executive Director in maintaining MCC’s relationships with multiple external parties by interpreting and explaining MCC and its programs
- Represent MCC in professional organizations and at professional and community meetings and events as requested
- Serve as a strategic business partner by collaborating with the Board of Managers as needed and liaising with the Compensation Committee
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education/Experience: Bachelors degree in Business Administration and/or Human Resource Management or similar area and 10 years’ experience in Human Resources Management
Certifications, Licenses, Credentials: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred

- Self-motivated, organized, attentive to details, and the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and effectively function without close supervision;
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and special events as needed.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and adapt to various software and technology programs to complete work duties
