Rare Native Plants

Fifty-Five Rare Plants

A total of fifty-five species of rare native plants (Delaware Natural Heritage Program, 2001) have been found on Mt. Cuba Center’s natural lands. Of this total, seven species are presently ranked as “S1” (five or fewer occurrences in the state). Twenty-one others are “S2” species (occurring in six to twenty sites in Delaware).

Among these are

  • Swamp buttercup (Ranunculus caricetorum)

  • Nodding trillium (Trillium cernuum)

  • Bigleaf aster (Aster schreberi)

  • Spring chickweed (Stellaria alsine)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Trillium luteum
